NUC SELECTS BEST COUNSELLING CENTRES ACROSS GEO-POLITICAL ZONES IN NIGERIA

In a forum held on 15th January 2015, organized by the National Universities Commission (NUC), the minister for education who chaired the occasion, together with the director, Student Support Services at the National Universities Commission, Mrs. Uwani Yahya, said objective assessment processes were employed to determine the best counseling centres in Nigerian universities across the six-geopolitical zones in Nigeria.
The forum themed “Guidelines for the Establishment of Counselling and Human Development Centres and Bench Statements on Student Support Services and Facilities in Nigerian Universities.” was attended by several Vice-Chancellors, Directors of Counseling Centres, Deans of Students’ Affairs Division of Federal, States and Private Universities in Nigeria.

Desktop computers among other prizes were awarded to emerged winners (each) of the geo-political zones. These winners and their political zones are written below:

WINNERS OF CHI 3RD ESSAY COMPETITIONS FOR NIGERIAN UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS


The results of the top winners of the consolidated hallmark insurance plc(CHI) essay competion for Nigerian Undergaraduates has been announced. The essay competition tagged “Social media and its  potential for the Nigerian Insurance Market” was birthed by the company’s initiative of promoting  professionalism and best insurance practice in Nigeria. This marks the 3rd annual competion of the company.
The first prize award was given to Praiz Femi Duke( an undergraduate student of University of Lagos, Akoka), who displayed excellence essay writing skills responsible for  this achievement. He received #100,000 cash prize, with a guaranteed employment in the company upon  graduation from university. He was also given a letter of award and plaque.
The second prize winner was  Kabari Goodluck( an undergraduate student of Rivers State University, Bori), who received #60,000 cash prize, a letter of award and award plaque.
The third prize winner, Adeoye Saheed(an undergraduate student of Lagos State university, Ojo) was awarded a cash prize of #40,000, a letter of award and plaque.

UNILAG POST-PONES 2013 GOLDEN JUBILEE CONVOCATION CEREMONIES





This is to inform all members of the University of Lagos Community and the general public that the university senate and authority has regrettably postponed the convocation ceremonies drawn up to celebrate the Golden jubilee occasion of the university.
The concerned public  and stakeholders described above are advised to look out and keep abreast with the university news on their website,  as a new date other than the former scheduled date of january 17th – 19th, 2013 will be announced later. Hence, the Golden jubilee convocation ceremonies is now postponed indefinitely.
The governing council regrets any inconvenience this may have caused  all graduating students, parents, well-wishers and family of celebrants.

JAMB 2013: CBT, DBT AND CBT


In a bid to thoroughly eliminate examination malpractices and other short-comings experienced in the unified tertiary matriculation examinations (UTME), The regulatory board, JAMB, has decided to introduce three options for the UTME 2013.
This, I believe will also help Nigerian students to be information communication technology-complaint. The board has decided to introduce two other options entirely different from the usual pen and paper test.
Thus, all tertiary institutions aspirant, and 2013 UTME candidates should please be aware that the three available examination options are:
  • PPT- PAPER AND PENCIL TEST
In this type of test, candidates will be subjected to shade in an OMR sheet to be provided by JAMB with their pencil and a question paper attached.
  • DBT- DIBU BASED TEST
In this case, questions will be presented on computers and candidates will be required to provide answers on paper
  • CBT- COMPUTER BASED TEST
Candidates that select this option will have both examination questions and provision of answers  done  on computer
Candidates are free to choose any of the options written above to the best of convenience and conversance. The examinations results will also be released thirty minutes after the examination for candidates who take part in the computer based test. Hence, all candidates are advised to study and prepare hard for the examination.
